Huawei Amplifies Commitment to Europe’s Green and Digital Future

Paris, France, At the HUAWEI CONNECT 2023 event in Paris, Huawei has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Europe’s green and digital transition. The conference, a gathering of global industry leaders, technical experts, and partners, focused on harnessing digital and intelligent technology to advance the European Union’s transition efforts.

According to Huawei, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman, highlighted the company’s two-decade-long journey in Europe during his opening speech. He stressed Huawei’s role in driving connectivity, empowering businesses, and fostering the digital ecosystem in Europe. The company’s future endeavors will focus on strengthening digital transformation, local innovation, sustainability, and cybersecurity in the region.

Jim Lu, Huawei’s Senior Vice President and President of the European Region, outlined four key pillars to support Europe’s twin transition: connectivity of everything, intelligent cloud, “bits manage watts”, and open cooperation. Lu emphasized Huawei’s commitment to providing superior products and solutions to aid Europe’s transition.

Huawei’s approach to digital transformation hinges on connecting everything through high-speed networks, particularly in industrial settings. One notable achievement is the development of Hungary’s East-West Gate (EWG) Intermodal Terminal, Europe’s first 5G-powered logistics terminal. The terminal’s enhanced efficiency and safety, powered by 5G’s high bandwidth and low latency, exemplify the potential of digital connectivity in industrial applications.

The role of Cloud technology as a driving force behind smart industry transformations was also underscored. Huawei Cloud, with nodes in Ireland and Türkiye, is positioned as a key player in Europe’s cloud services landscape, focusing on creating value for regional customers and partners.

In the realm of sustainable energy, Huawei has integrated digital and power electronics technologies to support Europe’s green energy initiatives. The company’s efforts have contributed to the generation of 228 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity in Europe, significantly reducing carbon emissions and creating numerous high-value jobs.

Lu reaffirmed Huawei’s strategic commitment to Europe, emphasizing customer-centricity, innovative collaboration, talent cultivation, and increased R&D investment. He called for an inclusive and fair environment for innovation, essential for societal advancement.

The event also featured insights from various guest speakers, including Michel-Edouard Leclerc, President of E. Leclerc; Ibán García del Blanco, Member of European Parliament; Dries Acke, Policy Director of SolarPower Europe; Roberta Bigliani, Group Vice President of IDC EMEA; and Luis Neves, CEO of the Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI).
