Hurriyat Leaders Call for Observance of ‘Youm-e-Istehsal’ on August 5 in Kashmir

Srinagar: Hurriyat leaders in Kashmir have reiterated their call for the observance of August 5 as “Youm-e-Istehsal” (Day of Exploitation), marking the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 by India’s government, which had previously granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, prominent figures such as Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Advocate Arshad Iqbal, and others have voiced strong opposition to the Indian government’s actions, which they claim are aimed at altering the demographic and stripping the Kashmiri people of their rights and resources. The leaders have condemned these measures as part of a broader settler-colonial agenda and have called on the international community to intervene against what they see as violations of Kashmiri rights.

The group also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian cause, denouncing the recent killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh by Israeli forces as an act of state terrorism, and extending condolences to his family and the Palestinian people.
