Hurriyat Leaders Criticize India’s Ban on Kashmiri Organizations

Srinagar, Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) have expressed strong disapproval of the Indian government’s decision to prohibit several pro-freedom organizations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This ban is viewed as a move against the indigenous rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, amid concerns of altering the region’s demographic structure.

According to Kashmir Media Service, prominent APHC figures, including Advocate Arshad Iqbal, Fayaz Hussain Jaafari, Syed Sibtain Shabbir Qumi, Yasmin Raja, Hafza Bano, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, and Imtiyaz Rishi, have collectively condemned the Indian government’s actions. They argue that these bans on groups like the Jammu and Kashmir National Front, People’s Freedom League, and Jammu and Kashmir People’s League are counterproductive and violate international norms and the UN Charter, which upholds the principle of self-determination.

The APHC leaders maintain that such prohibitions will not discourage the Kashmiri population’s desire for self-determination and freedom from Indian rule. They highlight the ongoing resilience among Kashmiris despite the pressures and assert that the region’s status as a contested territory underlines the legitimacy of their struggle for autonomy and rights.

These statements underscore the continuing tensions and the complex dynamics of resistance and governance in IIOJK, reflecting the broader geopolitical and human rights issues at play in the region.
