Hurriyet leaders placed under house arrest

Srinagar, March 15, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have placed the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and other Hurriyet leaders under house arrest. Besides Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the puppet authorities put under house detention the Hurriyet leaders including Maulana Abbas Ansari, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Zafar Akbar Butt, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Javed Ahmed Mir, Syed Saleem Gilani, Shahid-ul-Islam and Muhammad Ashraf Laiya.

The action has been taken to stop the leaders from visiting Bandipora and expressing solidarity with the family of a youth, Farhat Ahmad Dar, who was killed in the indiscriminate firing of Indian police on peaceful protesters in Naidkhai area of Bandipora, yesterday.

The police arrested Hurriyet leaders, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Hilal Ahmed War, Firdous Ahmed Shah and Bashir Kashmiri, from their houses in Srinagar and lodged them in police stations. The police also raided the residences of Hurriyet leaders, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmed Shah and Raja Merajuddin, subjecting the inmates to harassment.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown is being observed in Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore and other areas of the occupied territory to protest against the murder of the youth.
