IG Punjab Outlines Strict Accountability Measures and Enhanced Policing Strategies


Lahore, In a comprehensive video conference with regional police officers and district police officers, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards misuse of authority, corruption, and violations of ethical conduct within the force. He highlighted the commitment to holding officers accountable and assessing their performance rigorously.



According to Punjab Police, Dr. Anwar detailed several directives aimed at improving law enforcement efficacy across the province. This includes enforcing strict accountability for high-handedness and corruption, and resolving complaints received at the 1787 Complaint Center swiftly, with responsible officers held accountable for delays.



Dr. Anwar further directed the deployment of specialized police forces to combat smuggling and other illegal activities at interprovincial border checkpoints and urged an intensification of campaigns against organized crime such as drug trafficking. He also instructed on heightened intelligence-based operations against criminals in remote areas, known locally as ‘kacha’.



The meeting also focused on the eradication of highway robbery gangs through more active patrolling and a proactive approach. Moreover, Dr. Anwar ordered continued combing operations by the Counter-Terrorism Department to combat terrorism and antisocial elements.



In addition to crime control, Dr. Anwar emphasized the importance of improving the conviction rate of cases with effective coordination between the investigation and prosecution departments. He also called for the timely completion and effective follow-up of investigations into electricity theft cases to minimize financial losses to the national treasury.



Special attention was given to ensuring the security of Chinese nationals and safeguarding residential areas and routes, underlining the need for meticulous supervision by district police officers.



The conference also discussed infrastructure development within the police force, provision of justice, and enhancement of policing services to citizens. Dr. Anwar stressed the importance of fool-proof security arrangements for upcoming by-elections to the seats of the National and Provincial Assembly, in accordance with the instructions from the Election Commission.



Further directives included visible improvements in traffic management and reforms, particularly in Lahore and across the province, aiming for a systematic enhancement of traffic flow and safety.
