Srinagar, The Indian National Congress’ chapter in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has publicly criticized the local authorities for their failure to release payments owed to Kashmiri contractors, despite the completion of the financial year. The party claims that such negligence has led to significant economic distress among the contractors and has had a ripple effect on the broader community, including laborers and suppliers involved in various projects.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a leader of the Congress in the IIOJK, highlighted the critical situation facing contractors who have not received compensation for their completed projects. He noted the severe consequences of this issue, which extends beyond the contractors to affect suppliers, agencies, and laborers who rely on these payments to sustain their livelihoods.
Mir further criticized the lack of action to address the matter before the financial year’s end on March 31, questioning the reasons behind the delayed payments. He emphasized the urgency of the situation and called on the administration installed by New Delhi in IIOJK to release the overdue payments promptly to mitigate the economic distress experienced by the contractors and their associates.
This issue underscores the broader economic challenges faced in the region, where political and administrative decisions often have profound implications for the local population’s well-being.
