Jammu: In a significant show of unity, opposition parties in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir have scheduled a joint sit-in protest in Kathua for tomorrow, aiming to pressure the government to restore statehood and repeal controversial amendments enacted since August 5, 2019.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest was organized following an all-party meeting hosted by the Congress in Jammu, under the auspices of the All Parties United Morcha. This gathering saw participation from a wide array of political entities and social organizations, including the Congress, National Conference, Shiv Sena (UBT), Peoples Democratic Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, CPI ML, All India Peoples Association, Hindu Rights Summit, and Dalit Bahujan Mahasangh.
Manish Sahni, the convener of All Parties United Morcha and the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief in IIOJK, voiced concerns over the central government’s reluctance to fulfill its pledge of reinstating statehood, suggesting little hope for its return in the foreseeable future.
Additionally, a preparatory meeting was conducted in Kathua, led by Convenor ID Khajuria, to ensure the sit-in proceeds smoothly, with members from district units of the involved parties in attendance to finalize the demonstration details.
