India to Increase Military Presence in Jammu and Kashmir by Redeploying Troops from Manipur

Imphal: In a move signaling heightened security measures, the Indian government has announced the redeployment of two battalions of the Assam Rifles from Manipur to the region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This action is part of a broader strategy to reinforce control in an area where many locals are campaigning for their UN-recognized right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which operates under the Home Ministry, will assume the responsibilities previously held by the Assam Rifles in Manipur. This transition involves approximately 1,500 soldiers. The redeployment follows a high-level review meeting last month chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Home Minister Amit Shah assessed the ongoing situation in Kashmir.

The strategic shift in troop placement has raised concerns about the potential for increased tensions and conflicts in a region already marked by longstanding disputes and significant unrest.
