India’s Settler-Colonial Project Seeks to Erase Muslim Identity in Kashmir

Srinagar, India’s settler-colonial initiative in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is designed to obliterate the identity of its Muslim population.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the leadership of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference claims that the Modi government is actively promoting settler colonialism in the region, fulfilling a long-held objective of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The leaders issued a joint statement in Srinagar condemning what they describe as India’s colonial occupation of the area, which they say began with the arrival of Indian troops on October 27, 1947. Since then, the leaders assert, Kashmir has been treated as a colony by India.
