Srinagar, A significant confrontation in Kupwara, Kashmir has led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against 16 Indian Army personnel who are accused of barging into a local police station and assaulting officers, resulting in injuries to four policemen. The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, has escalated tensions between the army and local law enforcement.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Kupwara Police have levied serious charges under the Indian Penal Code, including rioting, robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder against the army personnel involved. The altercation reportedly stemmed from the detention of an army member by police, which led the soldiers, led by an officer, to forcibly enter the police station. They also allegedly abducted Head Constable Ghulam Rasool and confiscated the mobile phones of the injured police personnel and Station House Officer Mohammad Ishaq.
Following negotiations mediated by senior officers, Head Constable Rasool was released in exchange for the detained army member. The injured police officers—Constables Saleem Mushtaq and Zahoor Ahmad, along with Special Police Officers Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik and Rayees Khan—were subsequently hospitalized at the Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar.
