Indian Supreme Court Orders Prosecution of Army Personnel for Nagaland Killings

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has mandated the prosecution of army personnel involved in the 2021 Nagaland killings, marking a significant legal development.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the court issued notices to the Indian government and its Ministry of Defence following a petition by the Nagaland government, which seeks justice for the December 2021 incident in Mon district where 13 civilians were fatally shot by army troops.

The military initially claimed the civilians were militants, a statement contested by local witnesses. This controversial incident, which led to additional civilian deaths in subsequent clashes, has now moved forward legally, with the Supreme Court responding firmly to calls for accountability.
