Islamabad Minister Highlights Importance of Intellectual Property Rights for Sustainable Development

Islamabad, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan underscored the critical role of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in fostering innovation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, speaking at a seminar organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Organization, Minister Kamal emphasized the need to harness Pakistan’s vast natural resources through a robust intellectual property framework. The event, held to mark World Intellectual Property Day 2024, served as a platform for discussing how strengthened IPR can drive creativity, innovation, and socio-economic development.

Minister Kamal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing a national IP strategy that promotes equitable access to technologies and benefits for all sectors of society, particularly marginalized communities. He also highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships that integrate efforts from government, industry, academia, and civil society to spur innovation and support the SDGs.

The minister’s remarks reflect Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to integrate intellectual property with broader development goals, aiming to leverage IPR as a key element in sustainable development strategies.
