New Delhi, The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) has called for the suspension and legal action against Delhi police officers following the alleged severe beating of a Muslim youth, Arif Saleem, at the Madhu Vihar police station. The organization has issued a formal complaint to the city’s police leadership, citing abuse and discriminatory treatment based on religious identity.
According to Kashmir Media Service, JUH chief Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani detailed the incident in a letter addressed to Joint Commissioner of Police Sagar Singh Kalsi of the Eastern Range. The complaint, delivered by JUH General Secretary Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, alleges that Saleem was subjected to physical and verbal abuse over a minor traffic violation. The initial confrontation escalated, resulting in Saleem being taken to the police station and further abused.
The letter from JUH describes how Saleem was taken into a dark room at the station where the alleged brutality continued, leading to significant injuries and psychological trauma. The JUH delegation has since visited Saleem at his home to assess his condition and provide support.
In addition to calling for the officers’ suspension, Maulana Madani’s letter urges the police department to ensure that Saleem receives necessary medical treatment and advocates for an independent inquiry into the incident. The letter also demands protection for Saleem’s family amid concerns of ongoing safety and harassment.
Maulana Qasmi highlighted in discussions with the Joint Commissioner that such actions by police undermine their duty to protect the public and are deemed unacceptable by the community.
