Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry demands withdrawal of 14pc GST on Indenting Commission

Karachi, June 19, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), while criticizing the imposition of 14 percent GST on indenting commission imposed by Sindh government in its recently announced Provincial Budget 2015-16, said that this unjust levy cannot be charged from Indenting Commission Agents as they do not fall in the services sector.

According to a KCCI statement, the indenting commission agents were already paying 5 percent withholding tax at import stage which comes under the proviso of Federal Government, therefore the imposition of 14 percent GST by Sindh government was tantamount to double taxations which was against the Constitution of Pakistan.

Dozens of indenters have approached the Karachi Chamber and sought assistance in convincing the Sindh government to withdraw this unjust levy which was impossible for them to pay as the indenters are working on a very limited commission. KCCI urged the authorities in Sindh government to exclude indenters from the proposed tax as they do not fall in the services sector and do not come in the purview of sales tax.
