Karachi Electric Supply Company and SITE Association Pledge to Work Together

Karachi: Karachi Electric Supply Company led by its Deputy Chief Operating officer, Syed Muhammad Taha recently met Mr Irfan Motan, Chairman, SITE Association and his executive team to shed light upon and share the steps taken by KESC to facilitate the industries. Taha explained to the industrial body members that in the beginning of the current winter season, the power utility had no option but resort to load shed in the previously power shedding exempted industrial zones.

This decision as KESC had explained earlier was brought about by the sudden and uninformed curtailment of its gas supply by SSGC. However, despite the persisting gas shortage KESC has been managing its demand supply equation and since more than the past 8 weeks had restored the industrial zones from any planned load shed.

Mr Motan lauded KESC’s efforts towards reinstating the load-shed free regime for industries, despite all adversities and suggested that improved communication between the Association and KESC would help understand the factual position. He also appreciated the efforts being made by KESC to address the industrialist’s issues’ on priority basis.

The meeting, which lasted for over 2 hours in the office of SITE Association, deliberated on commercial and technical challenges ahead in the wake of ever-increasing fuel oil prices and reduced gas availability to KESC and power sector in general.

While discussing the investments by KESC during the last two years, the KESC team shared that more than 12 feeders were laid alone in SITE to cater to the ever-growing power needs of SITE consumers, whereas power transformer at SITE Grid was reinforced along with new generation capacity added by the company.

In order to further strengthen the communication, a committee was formed to resolve billing, load enhancement and other commercial issues. Both sides agreed to foster the relationship and work jointly in future for mutually beneficial business relationship.

The meeting was also attended by Senior Vice Chairman of SITE, Mr Asad Nisar, Dr Qazi Kamal, Chairman Subcommittee Fuel and Power, SITE; Mr Arshad Iftikhar, Dy Director, KESC and other senior officials.
