Karachi Mayor Vows to Reclaim City Sports Fields from Unauthorized Occupants

Karachi, In a decisive move to reclaim public sports facilities, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that over 40 sports fields currently occupied by various organizations and individuals will be cleared and made accessible to the citizens. He emphasized that no entity, regardless of its power, would hinder this process.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, during a meeting at the KMC Sports Complex on Kashmir Road, Mayor Wahab detailed his commitment to enhancing the city’s recreational facilities. He underscored the importance of safeguarding KMC’s assets and noted the recent opening of the swimming pool at the KMC Sports Complex, as well as improvements to family areas and restaurants at both the KMC and Women Sports Complex in Gulshan Iqbal.

The Mayor inspected several facilities within the sports complex, including the football stadium, tennis court, and bowling alley, calling for an audit of all KMC sports grounds within the next seven days. He lamented that these valuable community assets were underutilized and mismanaged, stressing that all income from these facilities should rightfully contribute to KMC’s revenues.

Furthermore, Mayor Wahab directed immediate action to prevent future unauthorized occupation of these spaces and encouraged partnerships under public-private initiatives to revitalize and sustain these facilities. His plans also include enhancing the Women Sports Complex with additional amenities like badminton courts and yoga classes to promote greater community engagement.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of life for Karachi’s residents by providing accessible and well-maintained sports and recreational facilities across the city.
