Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Unveils New Healthcare Facilities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital

Karachi, In a significant development aimed at enhancing healthcare services, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has inaugurated a Gynecology Ward, Children’s Nursery, and ICU at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, announced the establishment of the Karachi Institute of Child Health, with its headquarters at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and satellite centers planned across the city to improve pediatric care.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Mayor highlighted the reconstruction of the gynecology ward as a positive step towards improving hospital services. Further enhancements are anticipated, including the reactivation of Spencer Eye Hospital, which recently conducted five successful cataract surgeries. The announcements came during a press briefing following the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Municipal Commissioner SM Afzal Zaidi, and other dignitaries.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the ongoing efforts to upgrade hospital facilities, including the installation of a biometric system to ensure staff attendance and the restoration of the hospital’s laboratory. These improvements are part of a broader initiative to address healthcare challenges in Karachi and ensure the efficient operation of provided facilities.

In response to questions from media representatives, Mayor Wahab clarified the jurisdictional roles in setting up markets and addressed challenges related to collecting taxes and rents due to legal constraints. He expressed a desire to secure grants from the Sindh government for KMC hospitals, similar to the funding provided to other major hospitals in Karachi.

The Mayor reiterated the PPP’s commitment to dialogue and reconciliation, stating that discussions with other political parties, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, are always open as part of PPP’s inclusive approach to governance.
