Karachi, In a concerted effort to tackle unresolved issues affecting the city’s business community, leaders of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Businessmen Group (BMG) have reached out to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging him to reinitiate negotiations left incomplete from his previous term. These discussions, aimed at implementing remedies for a better business environment, have seen little progress, prompting this renewed call for action.
According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the appeal was made in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office. Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala and President KCCI Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh, recounting a meeting from Sharif’s last days in office, highlighted that many agreed-upon measures remain unimplemented. This meeting, held at the PNS Dockyard with federal secretaries, ended with commitments to resolve various issues, including the burdensome energy tariffs severely impacting industries and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The leaders also invited Sharif to visit the Karachi Chamber during his upcoming visit to the city, hoping to spotlight these enduring challenges.
In addition to addressing the Prime Minister, the BMG and KCCI leadership also congratulated and extended their support to the newly appointed Chief Ministers across Pakistan. This includes felicitations to Murad Ali Shah, Sindh’s Chief Minister, for his efforts to secure federal funding for crucial projects and Maryam Nawaz, the First Female Chief Minister of Punjab, emphasizing the need for collaboration for national progress. Similarly, Chief Ministers of Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were encouraged to focus on issues like smuggling, law and order, and regional development in coordination with the Sindh Government.
The leadership collective underscored the significance of cooperation among all Chief Ministers and the Prime Minister in addressing key issues that hamper economic growth, trade, and industry. By inviting all Chief Ministers to discuss matters of mutual interest at the Karachi Chamber, they hope to forge a unified approach towards resolving the economic challenges faced by Karachi and, by extension, Pakistan.
