Srinagar, January 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has said that the Kashmir dispute is the main cause of tension between Pakistan and India and both the countries should resolve it for establishing cordial relations between them as well as permanent peace in South Asia.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that India’s intransigent approach had been the basic impediment in the settlement of the lingering dispute and demanded of New Delhi to withdraw its troops from the occupied territory. He castigated the provocative statements of Indian leaders regarding the situation arising of tension on the Line of Control and appreciated the tolerance exhibited by Pakistan.
The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing a Seerat conference in Srinagar, today, said that the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the role model for all the Muslims. Hurriyet leaders, religious scholars and intellectuals including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Maulana Showkat Hussain Kang, Dr Yousuf Al-Omar and Maulana Khursheed Ahmed Qanoongo also addressed on the occasion.
The APHC spokesman and the Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Yasmeen Raja, in their statements in Srinagar paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara said that their mission would be accomplished at all costs.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement, Firdous Ahmad Shah, in a statement in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists including Dr Muhammad Qasim Faktoo, Musarrat Aalam Butt, Ghulam Qadir and Shakeel Ahmad Butt.
People took to the streets against the highhandedness of Indian police at Laru in Kulgam. The protesters told media men that the police thrashed and arrested the family members of a civilian, Hamid Sheikh, during night hours. The demonstrators blocked the Kulgam-Islamabad road and demanded release of arrested people including two 20-year-old girls.
On the other hand, a new video on the social networking site, YouTube, has showed the Indian police terror in occupied Kashmir. Titled ‘Kashmir: Indian militiamen assault detained Kashmiri teenagers’, the 2.15 minute video clip depicted around dozen policemen, with an officer sitting in a chair, stripping two teenagers and thrashing them ruthlessly.
In Oslo, the Executive Director of Kashmiri Scandinavian Council, Sardar Ali Shahnawaz Khan, in a statement said that the escalation of tension on the LoC had once again highlighted the importance of an early resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
