Muzaffarabad, Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, the Chairman of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, has declared that the residents of occupied Jammu and Kashmir are calling for a plebiscite as per United Nations Security Council resolutions, rejecting the current Indian military presence.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ghazali, in a statement from Muzaffarabad, outlined that the suppression tactics used by the Indian government, including military force, restrictive laws, and the staging of fake encounters leading to youth deaths, have not subdued the Kashmiri desire for self-determination. He emphasized that these methods are ineffective against the people’s 76-year struggle for freedom from Indian rule and the fulfillment of UNSC resolutions.
Ghazali highlighted the importance of addressing the Kashmir issue in accordance with the desires of its people to ensure lasting peace in South Asia. He also called upon international human rights bodies to secure the release of detained All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders and urged Amnesty International and Asia Watch to advocate against the harsh laws enforced in the region.
