Kashmiris Elect Advocate for Self-Determination in Strategic Election Participation

Srinagar, In a significant political move, residents of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir have selectively participated in recent elections to send a pointed message to the Indian government. Amidst longstanding rejections of India-sponsored electoral processes and calls for a plebiscite, voters in Baramulla have elected Engineer Rasheed, a staunch advocate for Kashmiri self-determination, to the Lok Sabha.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the strategic electoral participation comes as a response to the closure of all avenues for self-determination under the current Indian administration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This election marks a critical juncture, showcasing the populace’s resilience against what they perceive as an attempt by the Indian government to legitimize its control over the region through orchestrated electoral processes.

Political analyst Dr. Sheikh Showkat characterized Engineer Rasheed’s victory as a robust rejection of India’s policies in the region. “Engineer Rasheed’s election is a clear message to Delhi that the people of Kashmir will not be silenced or intimidated,” he stated, emphasizing the election as a testament to the people’s resistance.

Dr. Siddiq Wahid further highlighted the significance of the election outcome. “This result is a significant development in the history of Kashmir’s struggle for self-determination. It demonstrates the people’s determination to use every available platform to assert their rights and demand freedom from Indian occupation,” Wahid noted.

The election of Engineer Rasheed by the voters of Baramulla is seen not only as a victory for him but as a broader signal to the Indian government to respect the political aspirations of the Kashmiri people and acknowledge their right to self-determination.
