KARACHI: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has announced a major leadership shift following the acceptance of resignations from its top executives. The Executive Committee has formally approved the departures of Muhammad Jawed Bilwani as President, Zia ul Arfeen as Senior Vice President, and Faisal Khalil Ahmed as Vice President. This decision was finalized during an urgent meeting convened for this purpose.
A subsequent special meeting of the Executive Committee resulted in the unanimous election of Muhammad Rehan Hanif as the new President. Muhammad Raza and Muhammad Arif Lakhany were elected as Senior Vice President and Vice President, respectively, for the remainder of the 2024-2026 term.
Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of the Businessmen Group (BMG), praised the outgoing office bearers for their leadership and contributions during challenging times for trade and industry. He highlighted their efforts in addressing key economic issues such as energy tariffs, taxation, and documentation challenges. Motiwala noted the outgoing team’s role in enhancing the Chamber’s reputation as a leading voice for the private sector in Pakistan.
Throughout their tenure, the previous office bearers maintained strong connections with government entities and consistently advocated for the rights of the business community. They focused on issues like overbilling, infrastructure, and law and order, which bolstered the KCCI’s image as a representative of Karachi’s business interests.
Motiwala also extended his congratulations to the newly elected leaders, expressing confidence in their ability to advance the Chamber’s mission. He emphasized BMG’s ongoing commitment to support the KCCI in promoting economic growth and safeguarding trade and industry interests in Karachi and Pakistan.
