KCCI Seeks Income, Sales Tax Deadline Extension

Islamabad: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has formally requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to postpone the deadlines for filing income and sales tax returns. KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani appealed to FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial to extend the income tax return filing date for the 2025 tax year from September 30 to October 31, 2025, and the sales tax return for August 2025 by one month, citing difficulties faced by taxpayers.

Bilwani highlighted persistent technical issues and slowdowns on the IRIS portal, especially during busy periods, hindering efficient filing. He noted that these system inefficiencies persist despite assurances and are exacerbated by a growing number of tax filers.

Recent floods and heavy monsoon rains have also disrupted internet and telecom services, including 4G and 5G connectivity, further complicating online submissions. Bilwani reminded the FBR of past deadline extensions under similar situations, emphasizing that such relief promotes taxpayer compliance, economic documentation, and ultimately, higher revenue.

Granting an extension, he argued, will give lawyers, accountants, consultants, and tax professionals adequate time to complete tasks accurately. Bilwani expressed confidence in the FBR Chairman’s positive response, anticipating a decision that benefits both taxpayers and the national treasury.
