Kerala: The death toll in Kerala has risen sharply to 185 as relentless heavy rains and landslides continue to devastate the southern Indian state, causing widespread destruction and trapping hundreds.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Wayanad district has been particularly hard hit, with numerous homes destroyed and many individuals feared trapped under debris. The region is still reeling, with 225 people reported missing and ongoing search and rescue operations attempting to locate survivors.
Indian media sources report that the natural disaster has caused extensive damage to infrastructure, with numerous homes collapsed, roads obliterated, and trees uprooted. Emergency response efforts have led to the rescue of 120 individuals so far, while approximately 195 people have sustained injuries.
The state administration has responded by declaring a public holiday in 11 districts, closing all educational institutions to ensure safety and facilitate emergency measures.
