Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Minister Advocates for Research-Driven University Development

Peshawar, In a move to elevate the academic and financial stability of universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Provincial Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi, has emphasized the importance of enhancing research capabilities through proposed amendments to the University Act.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister Afridi articulated this vision while chairing a meeting on amending the University Act, attended by high-level education officials, including the Secretary and Special Secretary of Higher Education, as well as professors from Peshawar University. The amendments aim to address the financial challenges faced by universities and bolster quality research and educational facilities. Afridi highlighted the establishment of a robust Quality Assurance Cell and Research Offices as pivotal to achieving these goals and ensuring that universities can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the region’s development.

The meeting also tackled systemic issues such as the appointment process for vice-chancellors, recognizing their critical role in leading universities toward progress and resolving institutional challenges. These discussions reflect a concerted effort to reform higher education governance and improve the academic environment for students in the province.
