Lahore, January 08, 2015 (PPI-OT): While expressing full-day power shut down, Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has demanded of the government to take notice of the situation and take measures on war footing to avoid such crisis like situation in future as 20-day power break on January 08 has ruined the industrial activities.
In a statement issued here Thursday, Chairman PIAF Malik Tahir Javed said that 20-hour long power shut down has revealed the weaknesses of the systems and it could cause huge loss to the industry and economy in the future.
Malik Tahir Javed said that though the recent prolonged power cut was due to system failure but it is also an irony fact that there is a massive shortfall between demand and supply of the electricity. He said that country needs sufficient power to run on the path of progress and prosperity therefore government has to work day and night on power generation projects.
Chairman PIAF said that present regime should include Kalabagh dam in its priority list as this mega project could not only generate massive power and ensure water supply to the agriculture sector but could also give more than $ 3 billion benefits to the national economy.
He lamented that mega project “Kalabagh dam” is being “killed” for vested interests of some particular elements. He said that recent devastated floods have also highlighted the need of Kalabagh dam as it would store water of rain and floods that could be supplied throughout the country for irrigation.
Malik Tahir Javed urged the Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to bring all parties together and create consensus on Kalabagh dam that would be a great favour to the nation.
