Malaysia Pledges Support to Bolster Pakistan’s Export Market

Karachi: In a bid to strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and Malaysia, H.E. Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, the Malaysian High Commissioner in Pakistan, has promised to facilitate Pakistani exporters to improve market access to Malaysia. This commitment was made during a significant meeting hosted by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).

Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, revealed that the meeting was attended by notable business leaders and stakeholders. The gathering served as a platform to explore and expand bilateral cooperation, taking advantage of the Pakistan-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and focusing on key sectors such as IT, agriculture, edible oil, textiles, and renewable energy.

During the meeting, H.E. Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan highlighted Malaysia’s expertise in areas like Islamic finance, palm oil, food processing, tourism, and technology. He encouraged Pakistani businesses to consider Malaysia as a gateway to ASEAN markets and assured support in correcting the trade imbalance between the two countries.

Mr. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Senior Vice President of FPCCI, stressed the importance of increasing Pakistan’s exports to Malaysia, which currently face a trade deficit of $445 million. He emphasized FPCCI’s dedication to fostering joint ventures and removing trade barriers to improve bilateral trade relations.

The event also saw Mr. Bashir Janmohammed, Chairman of the Pakistan-Malaysia Business Council, welcoming the Malaysian delegation. He underscored the strategic partnership between the two nations and the potential for further collaboration in technology, halal trade, and sustainable development.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on enhancing bilateral cooperation, including strategies to boost trade, streamline business visas, and promote joint initiatives in sectors like Edible Oil, AgriTech, FinTech, and IT.
