Karachi: The Pakistan Economic Zone Development and Management Company (PEZDMC) has outlined its plans for the new Malir Industrial Park (MIP), aiming to create a near-ideal environment for industrialists with improved facilities and infrastructure.
According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the seminar on the establishment of Malir Industrial Park was held at KCCI, where Brigadier Muhammad Asad, Administrator of PEZDMC, emphasized the ongoing efforts to address the existing challenges faced by industrialists in Karachi. The focus is on providing a smooth operational environment at MIP by minimizing current weaknesses prevalent in other industrial zones.
The seminar was well-attended by key figures including KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, various senior vice presidents, former presidents, and managing committee members, along with prominent industrialists. Discussions centered around the strategic importance of MIP in spearheading economic and industrial development not only for Karachi but for Pakistan as a whole.
Brigadier Asad highlighted the strategic phase of the project, noting that inputs from the business community are crucial at this stage to avoid future complications. “We are here to take the business community’s inputs about Malir Industrial Park as currently, we are at a stage where the project can easily be tailored but at a later stage, it will be a problem if we identify issues,” he stated during his address.
MIP is poised to be a model industrial park with top-notch security and infrastructure, set on the outskirts of Karachi to contribute to the socio-economic uplift of the area. The park plans to generate its own renewable energy, which will be cheaper than the current electricity provided by Karachi Electric.
The project’s significance was underscored by its soft inauguration on September 26, 2024, by Army Staff General Asif Munir and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, highlighting the high level of commitment to the success of the project.
President Bilwani of KCCI commented on the historical neglect of industrial zones by various federal governments and expressed hope in the Special Investment Facilitation Council’s efforts to address these issues. He also pointed out the long-standing infrastructural problems in Karachi’s industrial zones and stressed the need for enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of industrialists and their workforce.
