Meta AI Expands to Urdu in Pakistan, Boosting Digital Transformation

Karachi: Meta has officially launched its artificial intelligence platform, Meta AI, in Urdu for users in Pakistan. The announcement was made during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). In addition to the language expansion, Meta revealed a series of initiatives aimed at advancing digital transformation within the country.

The launch means Pakistani users can now interact with Meta AI not only in English but also in their native language, Urdu. This move is part of a broader effort to make technology more inclusive and accessible across the nation.

Meta also introduced a localized edition of a guide titled “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” developed in collaboration with Deloitte. This guide, supported by the Ministry, outlines how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance government operations, improve public services, and bolster data sovereignty. It showcases successful examples and best practices from various Asia-Pacific countries, with a focus on Pakistan.

In an educational thrust, Meta has partnered with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp to launch the AI Literacy Program. This initiative aims to train 350 non-computer science university teachers across Pakistan in basic AI skills, equipping them to prepare students for the modern digital landscape.

Furthering its commitment to digital transformation, Meta announced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program. This initiative will provide Pakistan’s public institutions with access to Meta’s technologies, solutions, and best practices. It seeks to foster collaboration between experts from both public and private sectors, focusing on effective digital strategies.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the significance of these initiatives. “Under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, Pakistan is moving toward a future where technology empowers every citizen,” she stated. The inclusion of Urdu in Meta AI, she noted, represents a milestone in making technology more inclusive.

Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, highlighted the company’s commitment to support public sector and educational institutions. “We are delighted that Meta AI is now available in Urdu, giving the local community new opportunities to connect with technology in their own language,” he said.
