Moller-Maersk to Partner with Pakistan on Port Development and Modernization

Islamabad, In a significant move towards enhancing its maritime infrastructure, Pakistan has secured a collaboration with Moller-Maersk (APM) Terminals, one of the world’s leading port and logistics companies, to develop and modernize its existing port facilities.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the commitment was formalized during a meeting between Keith Svendsen, CEO of Moller-Maersk Terminals, and Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, with the Danish Ambassador to Pakistan, Jakob Linulf, also in attendance. The discussions focused on investment opportunities in Pakistan’s ports and terminals sector.

Svendsen outlined Moller-Maersk’s strong global presence and its significant engagement in Pakistan, where it handles about 20 percent of the country’s containerized import-export activities. He proposed investments aimed at enhancing integrated supply chain solutions and upgrading logistics infrastructure, which include capacity building and modernizing port facilities.

Minister Sheikh reiterated the government’s commitment to boosting the blue economy as a driver of economic progress and highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in maximizing the potential of Pakistan’s maritime sector. He also praised the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in creating a favorable environment for foreign investors.

The partnership is expected to bring transformative benefits to Pakistan’s economy by improving its maritime facilities and fostering a skilled workforce within the sector.
