Monsoon Surge to Bring Widespread Rains Across Pakistan

Islamabad: Enhanced monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are set to impact large parts of Pakistan starting this weekend, with forecasters predicting widespread rain and thunderstorms across multiple regions, including heavy falls that may lead to flash flooding and urban inundation.

According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, from July 21st to 27th, enhanced monsoon activity will affect regions from Kashmir to northern Balochistan. Specifically, Kashmir will experience significant rainfall beginning the evening of July 21st. Similarly, areas in Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to receive heavy rainfall between July 22nd and 25th, with some places facing rain as early as the evening of July 22nd.

The forecast details how different regions will be impacted: in Punjab and Islamabad, widespread rain is anticipated with potential heavy falls in cities such as Lahore and Rawalpindi. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas like Peshawar and Swat are expected to encounter similar conditions. Balochistan will generally see hotter and more humid conditions, though northeastern parts like Zhob and Barkhan will also have rain around July 23rd and 24th.

The weather service has warned of possible flash flooding in vulnerable hill torrents of Murree, Galliyat, Manshera, Kohistan, and Malakand. Urban areas in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa might also experience flooding due to heavy downpours. Moreover, landslides are a concern in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during this period.

Authorities have been advised to stay alert and prepare for the impacts, which could include disruption to travel and daily activities. Residents and tourists in affected areas are urged to exercise caution, particularly near vulnerable streams and during land movements in hilly regions.
