Muslims flee homes after attacks by Hindutva groups in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, May 31, 2023 (PPI-OT): Hindutva groups have threatened Muslims to leave their homes in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Uttarakhand state in India. Several Muslim shopkeepers and workers in Purola, Uttarkashi areas have fled their homes owing to the threats. The Hindutva groups are targeting Muslims on the pretext of an alleged abduction of a minor girl.

The Hindu groups organised a protest and shouted slogans against the Muslim community while threatening them to vacate their shops. The violent Hindutva group attacked shops and establishments of Muslim community in the area. After the incident, at least 42 Muslim shopkeepers and vendors have fled the area.

The police are silent on attacks on Muslims in the area.
