Naqvi Directs Crackdown on Overbilling of Protected Consumers

Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued a directive for immediate action against the overbilling of protected electricity consumers, emphasizing strict measures to address consumer grievances and enforce billing accuracy.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Naqvi mandated all directors of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to rectify the ongoing issues faced by consumers utilizing up to 200 units of electricity. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the protected consumer category, declaring any misclassification—that is, wrongly categorizing protected consumers as non-protected—as a criminal offense.

The Minister highlighted that such overbilling has imposed millions of rupees in undue charges on consumers, particularly burdening those already in difficult financial situations. He reiterated that the protection of these consumers is a priority and that violations of their rights will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
