Natalie A. Baker Appointed Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy in Islamabad

Islamabad: Natalie A. Baker has officially taken office as the new Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, marking another significant chapter in her distinguished diplomatic career. Her arrival strengthens the U.S. diplomatic mission in Pakistan, where she brings extensive experience from various international assignments.

According to Embassy of the United States of America, before her latest role in Islamabad, Baker served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Doha, Qatar. Her robust diplomatic portfolio includes positions such as Director of the Office of North African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Deputy Chief and Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Mission to Libya, and Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, where she collaborated closely with the Department of Defense during the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

Baker’s tenure in Libya as Political and Economic Counselor was particularly noteworthy, as she played a crucial role during the normalization of bilateral relations after a nearly three-decade hiatus and stayed until the political upheaval in 2011 forced an embassy evacuation. Her previous roles also include stints as a Consular Officer in Islamabad and Cultural Officer in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Baker holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a master’s in public policy from Harvard University, complemented by her recognition as a Distinguished Graduate of the National War College at the National Defense University.
