Karachi, August 30, 2012 (PPI-OT): NADRA has clarified that the statement of Senator Talha Mehmood about NADRA’s issuance of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to 500,000 aliens has been misreported in a section of media on Wednesday 29 August 2012.
The authority said that it is the National Alien Registration Authority (NARA) (not NADRA) that has, under the law, a mandate to register the aliens present in Pakistan.
Moreover, contrary to the reports of media, no documentary evidence was presented in support of this blame on NADRA to the Chairman of Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior Talha Mahmood during the committee’s meeting.
Also, during his visit to NADRA Headquarters on August 30 2012, Senator Talha Mahmood showed his full confidence in NADRA and its transparency of processes.
This kind of misreporting damages the reputation of the government’s organization, and also makes citizens lose faith in critical and sensitive operations of the country.
