Nationwide Anti-Polio Drive Targets 9.5 Million Children in 49 Districts

Islamabad: A critical anti-polio campaign commenced this Monday across 49 districts in Pakistan, aiming to vaccinate over 9.5 million children under five years of age against the crippling disease. This initiative comes in response to the rising number of polio cases, particularly in Balochistan, prompting a coordinated effort to curb the spread of the virus.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the campaign spans sixteen districts in Balochistan, eleven in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sixteen in Sindh, and six in Punjab, with door-to-door vaccinations also occurring in specific Union Councils of Islamabad. This targeted approach focuses on regions where the poliovirus has been continuously detected, illustrating a strategic deployment of resources to eliminate the disease from these high-risk areas.
