NEPRA Approves KE’s Transmission and Distribution Tariff Petitions for 2024-2030

Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued its determination on K-Electric’s (KE) transmission and distribution network tariff petitions for the seven-year control period from fiscal year 2024 to 2030. This decision, dated May 23, 2025, follows KE’s original submission of the petitions in December 2023.

The approval is part of an ongoing regulatory process, building on NEPRA’s previous decision regarding KE’s generation tariff. This reflects continued progress in Pakistan’s evolving power sector. KE anticipates that the resolution of its Supply Tariff Petition and Investment Plan review will also proceed in a timely manner.

Importantly, the new tariff determinations will not impact the electricity rates for customers, as these remain governed by Pakistan’s uniform tariff policy.

The decision is a key milestone for KE, aligning with its comprehensive investment plan for 2030. This plan focuses on reducing transmission and distribution losses, expanding the customer base, and enhancing infrastructure to meet both current demands and future requirements.

While KE is still reviewing NEPRA’s detailed determination, it has noted that the approved tariff structure includes certain reductions, particularly in the Return on Equity (RoE).

KE continues to engage with NEPRA to ensure that all reforms and tariff structures contribute to a stable, transparent, and future-ready energy sector. Since its privatization, KE has invested over $4 billion in Karachi’s power infrastructure, doubling its customer base and energy delivery while significantly reducing line losses. Currently, approximately 70% of KE’s service area is exempt from load shedding, demonstrating the company’s commitment to reliable power supply and operational efficiency.
