New Legislation Introduced in Pakistani Senate to Address Wages, Price Control, and Public Safety

Islamabad, The Senate of Pakistan convened at Parliament House this evening, presided over by Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, to introduce a series of legislative amendments aimed at reforming wages, enhancing public safety, and ensuring economic fairness among other issues.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the session saw the introduction of six bills, reflecting a broad legislative agenda. The bills included “The Payment of Wages (Amendment) Bill, 2023,� which seeks to modify existing wage laws; “The Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding (Amendment) Bill, 2023,� designed to address economic disparities; and “The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024,� which proposes changes to strengthen the legal framework around criminal offenses.

Additional bills presented during the session were “The National Highways Safety (Amendment) Bill, 2023,� aimed at increasing safety on national highways; “The General Clauses (Amendment) Bill, 2022,� which intends to update general legal provisions; and “The Islamabad Rent Restriction (Amendment) Bill, 2023,� focused on revising tenant-landlord relationships in the capital city.

Following the introduction, the bills were referred to their respective standing committees for further deliberation and review, marking a crucial step in the legislative process aimed at ensuring thorough scrutiny and expert input before any final decisions are made.

The session concluded with the prorogation of the Senate, signaling the end of current discussions but setting the stage for more detailed evaluations by committee members in upcoming meetings.
