New Senators Sworn In Amid Legislative Flurry in Islamabad’s Senate Session

Islamabad, In today’s Senate session chaired by Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani at the Parliament House, Maulana Abdul Wasay and Faisal Wawda were sworn in as senators, marking their official entry into Pakistan’s upper house of parliament.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani administered the oaths to the new senators, who subsequently signed the roll of members. The session also saw a significant legislative activity with the introduction of seven new ordinances, including amendments to the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, and the National Highway Authority, among others.

Additionally, three bills were introduced: “The Election (Amendment) Bill, 2024â€�, “The Motion Pictures (Amendment) Bill, 2023â€�, and “The Establishment of Special Court (Overseas Pakistanis Property) Bill, 2023â€�. In a notable move, Minister for Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar laid out the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and requested the Senate’s recommendations to the National Assembly on this Money Bill.

The Chairman has referred the Money Bill to the Special Committee, which is tasked with examining the bill and making recommendations to the National Assembly by the upcoming Monday.
