NIA Attaches Properties of Kashmiri Activists Under Stringent Laws

Srinagar, In a continuing clampdown in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has seized four more properties belonging to Kashmiri activists in Kupwara district under the controversial Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to Kashmir Media Service, an official disclosed that the properties, including two houses and two vehicles, belong to known Hurriyat activists Mohammad Alam Butt, Mohammad Yousuf Khawaja, Shabir Ahmed Gakhad, and Zakir Hussain Mir. The attachment of these assets marks another move in a series of actions targeting individuals associated with the Hurriyat movement, with the case having been registered by the NIA back in February 2019.

The ongoing use of UAPA underscores the severe measures being employed by Indian authorities to suppress dissent and activism in the region, raising significant human rights concerns internationally.
