Operation Grift – Gas theft busted in many areas of Sindh and Balochistan

Karachi, October 17, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Operation Wing of SSGC’s Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations (SSCGTO) Department undertook an anti-gas theft raid in Malir Karachi. The team found the culprits involved in direct use of gas for power generation of 15kw generator for commercial purposes. FIR was lodged. In addition, two more cases of meter tampering for commercial purposes were detected.

The Company’s Customer Relations Department’s (CRD) Task Force conducted a major operation against culprits involved in gas theft in Bihar Colony, Lyari in Karachi. More than 95 residents were found stealing gas directly through rubber pipes. All rubber pipes and fittings used for Illegal extension of gas were removed by the raiding team.

As part of its Operation Grift Campaign to flush out gas theft, the Company’s joint survey team comprising of the representatives of Measurement, Sales, and (SS and CGTO) departments, carried out detailed inspections of a number of industries as part of the Industrial Survey to check strict compliance to gas sales agreements, extra connected load and meter size so that relevant action can be taken in case of any violation.

The SS and CGTO team also detected more than twenty-five underground and overhead theft cases and removed clamps in many areas in Larkana Region including Jacobabad, Mehar, Nasirabad and Lakhi. FIR was lodged against four culprits in Police Station in Nasirabad. Around 20 underground and overhead pilferages were also detected in Sukkur region.

Raids were also conducted in a number of residential areas and localities in and around Hyderabad including Al-Shahbaz Colony, Aliabad Hala Naka, Zafar Society in Hala Road and village Sahib Khan Chandio where residents were using gas illegally by installing clamps on the Company’s distribution lines. Clamps were summarily removed. Meanwhile in Balochistan, six overhead direct connections were removed from Sheikh Zahid Hospital. SSGC is committed towards intensifying raids against gas theft across its franchise areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
