Karachi: The recent visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Pakistan is anticipated to pave the way for increased trade, joint ventures, and investments between the two nations. This was articulated by key members of the United Business Group (UBG), including President Zubair Tufail, Chairman (Sindh) Khalid Tawab, Secretary General (Sindh) Hanif Gohar, and Core Committee Member Syed Mazhar Ali Nasir, in a joint statement.
According to United Business Group, the 68-member delegation accompanying the Belarusian President represents a significant stride towards enhancing bilateral trade and discovering new avenues for economic collaboration. Presently, trade between Pakistan and Belarus is valued at approximately $50 million, a figure that is considered to be below the potential capacities of both countries.
Zubair Tufail noted that establishing direct flights and road transport links is essential for strengthening trade relations, as it would facilitate closer interactions between business communities from both countries.
Khalid Tawab, Hanif Gohar, and Syed Mazhar Ali Nasir pointed out that the agriculture sector is a promising area for partnership. They suggested that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from both nations could explore cooperation in sectors such as football manufacturing, bedding, sports items, and various other products including rubber, plastic, metal, surgical instruments, and artificial jewelry.
The UBG leaders also remarked that these initiatives align with current bilateral cooperation frameworks, such as the Joint Belarusian-Pakistani Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Belarusian-Pakistani Business Council.
