Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb hosted Finland’s Ambassador Hannu Ripatti today in Islamabad, where they discussed strengthening the economic ties between their countries. The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s recent economic improvements and collaborative initiatives aimed at boosting long-term growth.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Aurangzeb provided an overview of Pakistan’s economic landscape, noting significant achievements such as increased tax collection, rising remittances, and foreign exchange reserves now exceeding nine billion dollars. He also discussed the positive outcomes of Pakistan’s engagements with international financial institutions, including the successful conclusion of a 9-month Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and a newly finalized 37-month staff-level agreement.
The dialogue also covered extensive reforms and initiatives, including the digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue, energy sector reforms, restructuring of state-owned enterprises, and a focus on export-led growth. Ambassador Ripatti expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s reform efforts and recognized the improved conditions for Finnish companies operating in Pakistan.
Moreover, the meeting addressed Finland’s support for Pakistan in renewing its Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus status, which significantly benefits Pakistan’s export sector. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations and continued economic cooperation.
