Pakistan and Iraq Boost Cooperation on Pilgrimage Facilitation and Police Training

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi met with Lieutenant General Dr. Tahmeir Ismail, Commander of Iraq’s Rapid Response Unit, to discuss a range of issues aimed at enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Iraq. Key topics included easing travel for Pakistani pilgrims in Iraq and collaborative security initiatives such as police training and the Safe City project.

According to Press Information Department, the discussions focused on not confiscating passports from Pakistani pilgrims in Iraq, which Minister Naqvi urged the Iraqi government to expedite. He also announced upcoming visa-free entry for Iraqi citizens into Pakistan and promised support for training Iraqi police personnel. The Iraqi delegation reciprocated with assurances to address the passport issue promptly, emphasizing the esteem in which they hold visitors from Pakistan.

The meeting also covered broader security cooperation, with plans to enhance measures against illegal immigration and human smuggling. The Iraqi delegation extended an invitation to Minister Naqvi to visit Iraq, reflecting the deepening ties between the two nations.
