Islamabad: Pakistan and the Maldives have reaffirmed their commitment to expand their defense collaboration through joint initiatives, including enhanced military engagements. The announcement was made during the visit of Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Staff of the Maldives, to Pakistan, where he met with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, in Rawalpindi.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions between the two military leaders underscored the need to strengthen defense ties. Both nations emphasized their resolve to broaden existing collaborations through various joint initiatives.
During his visit, Major General Hilmy expressed his appreciation for the high professional standards of the Pakistan Armed Forces, highlighting their significant achievements and sacrifices in combating terrorism.
On his arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, the visiting Maldivian dignitary was honored with a Guard of Honour by a tri-services contingent. This ceremonial gesture marked the beginning of discussions aimed at solidifying the defense relationship between the two countries.
