Pakistan Denounces Arrest of Kashmiris Under UAPA in Jammu and Kashmir

Islamabad: The government of Pakistan has expressed strong disapproval of the recent arrests of Kashmiris under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, particularly following their expressions of solidarity with Palestine during a Muharram procession.

According to Kashmir Media Service announcement issued on 19 July 2024, during a weekly news briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch highlighted the use of what she referred to as “black laws” by Indian authorities to suppress and intimidate the Kashmiri populace. She criticized the frequent invocation of such laws, asserting that they are employed to fabricate charges and perpetuate a climate of fear among Kashmiris.

Baloch called for the immediate dismissal of the cases against the arrested individuals, advocating for their swift release. She also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri cause, promising continued moral, political, and diplomatic backing aimed at resolving the dispute in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the desires of the Kashmiri people.
