Islamabad: Minister of Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada has urged provincial and state authorities to closely collaborate with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to ensure a swift and effective response to monsoon-related emergencies. During a meeting held today, he stressed the need for a National Disaster Response Committee to bolster the country’s disaster management framework and enhance coordination between federal and provincial governments.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pirzada chaired discussions focusing on the immediate necessity to monitor river water levels continuously, clear encroachments from waterways and riverbanks, and maintain a high level of preparedness for potential flood emergencies. The directives were specifically aimed at the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (pdmas) of Punjab and Sindh.
In addition, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, tasked the pdmas and State Disaster Management Authorities (sdmas) with developing standardized response plans. These plans are intended to streamline and strengthen disaster management efforts and will be reviewed by the Prime Minister in an upcoming meeting.
Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, emphasized the importance of protecting critical infrastructure, including roads and communication networks, from potential damage due to the monsoon season. His call to action underscores the broader government initiative to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters on the nation’s infrastructure and communities.
