Pakistan Finance Minister Seeks Enhanced UK Investment and Cooperation

Washington D.C., In a recent meeting with Mr. Andrew Mitchell, UK’s Minister of State for Development and Africa, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the deep-rooted partnership between Pakistan and the UK, especially in education, health, and the financial sector. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation and attracting more UK investment into Pakistan.

According to Press Information Department, Minister Aurangzeb briefed Minister Mitchell on Pakistan’s positive economic indicators and the government’s current focus areas, including taxation, energy sector improvements, and reforms in state-owned enterprises (SOEs). He highlighted the importance of collaboration with provincial governments to address taxation and fiscal surplus challenges effectively.

The meeting also served as a platform for Minister Aurangzeb to invite British International Investment (BII) to explore opportunities in bankable projects within Pakistan, aligning with the country’s development goals and economic reforms. He expressed gratitude towards Minister Mitchell for his upcoming visit to Pakistan in August 2024, viewing it as a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations and increasing direct investment from the UK.

This dialogue underscores Pakistan’s efforts to solidify existing partnerships and foster economic growth through international cooperation and investment.
