Pakistan Links Sugar Exports to Domestic Price Stability

Islamabad, The Sugar Advisory Board announced today a new policy linking the export of surplus sugar to its price stability in the domestic market. The decision, made during a meeting chaired by the Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, aims to prioritize local sugar demands and stabilize prices before considering international sales.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the board’s resolution was influenced by concerns over the potential impact of sugar price fluctuations on the general population. Minister Hussain emphasized the importance of fulfilling the local sugar requirements to prevent price hikes that affect consumers nationwide.

Further details revealed by the Ministry indicate that the government and the Pakistan Sugar Manufacturing Association (PSMA) will develop a specific mechanism to ensure sugar prices remain stable. This agreement also involves provincial governments and the PSMA, which are tasked with maintaining a smooth supply of sugar across the country until the next crushing season begins.

The new policy reflects a strategic approach to balance the needs of local consumers with the opportunities of exporting surplus commodities to generate foreign exchange, without compromising market stability.
