Islamabad, Pakistan has reiterated its strong support for the principles of United Nations peacekeeping and its continued contribution to global peace and security.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Foreign Office issued a statement on the ‘International Day of UN Peacekeepers’, praising the significant contributions of Pakistani women peacekeepers and underscoring the nation’s commitment to enhancing their roles in peacekeeping operations. With over 500 Pakistani women peacekeepers having served in various UN missions, Pakistan remains a leading troop-contributing country, having deployed more than 235,000 peacekeepers in 48 UN missions. The nation also continues to honor the 181 peacekeepers who have sacrificed their lives in service.
The statement further noted Pakistan’s ongoing role in shaping the adaptation of UN peacekeeping operations to modern challenges, including collaborations with the African Union-led peace support operations. Pakistan’s unique position as both a major contributor and as host to the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) was also emphasized, showcasing its enduring commitment to international peacekeeping efforts.
